Emergency project reaches terror refugees in Mozambique

Thanks to your donations and Swiss Solidarity, SolidarMed supports 100,000 people in 14 resettlement villages and at the same time strengthens seven health centers.

The health facilities in Cabo Delgado are already very challenged, as this photograph from last year of people waiting outside the clinic in Chiúre shows. Now the refugees are added to this.

So far, nearly 700,000 people have fled. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) fears that more than 1 million people will be displaced as a result of the renewed violence if the situation does not ease.

The refugees are settling in resettlement villages in makeshift huts made of bamboo, wood and mud.
SolidarMed supports local health authorities in sending mobile clinics to particularly remote resettlement villages. Latrines are built and chlorine is provided to disinfect drinking water. People are also being made aware of hygiene issues to help contain the cholera outbreak and the spread of COVID-19.

Since October 2017, the northern and central coastal districts of Cabo Delgado province have been subjected to deadly violence by terrorist groups. These terrorize villages with looting, raids, and beheadings. To date, more than 2,600 people have already been victims of these attacks.

We thank you for the many and generous donations.

Your donation helps

Thanks to your valuable donation, we are able to build an operating room in the remote district of Namuno and thus enable safe births. You will also allow us to expand transport by motorcycle ambulances and significantly improve the health of mothers and children. Many thanks!
